The Athens Quilt Trail is less about me as an artist and more about the amazing community of people and creatives around me that have inspired and shaped this project.
I simply must spotlight and thank my amazing community of friends for inspiring this project in the first place. This all began with discussions of folk art and craft from the women in our lives that we most admire. It was from these conversations I really understood the power of fiber arts and of quilting throughout time and throughout culture. From sharing resources, late nights sharing a studio, hours of critiques of our work together, all in an effort to ensure everything we made was true to ourselves, and countless conversations shared over lunches and dinners and snacks and drinks – “The Athens Quilt Trail” exists because of Tabitha Asiedu-Gyamfi, Sogol Khorram, Sara Pirahmadian, Shima Mousavizadeh, Krishty Debangana, Xenab Malik, Len Loomis and Sarah Heink. I dedicate every good thing about this project to each of you. (Please, go check out their amazing creative projects! I’m forever honored to know them <3)
Community is complex and beautiful and interwoven with everything, meaning you need pros to help you really fully understand it. These creators are professional writers on community, with amazing resources that I implore you explore to understand how to be a true member of your community.
